FILIPINO BEEFSTEAK OR BISTEK
Prep time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 20 minutes
Yields: Serves 4 with steamed rice
1 ½ lbs. chuck roast, cut small and thin strips, or sliced thinly
Juice of 2 lemons
¼ cup soy sauce
5 cloves garlic, minced
½ tsp ground pepper
4 tsbp cooking oil
½ cup broth
1 large yellow onion, peeled, cut into thin rings
Marinate beef with juice of 1 lemon, soy, garlic and ground pepper for 2 hours. DO NOT OVERMARINATE as the beef will be salty.
Pre heat oil for a minute and fry beef slices until tender and brown.
Remove some of the oil from the pan.
Continue to cook beef, adding the remaining juice of lemon and the broth.
Bring to a boil and cook it for another 2 minutes.
Add yellow onion. Stir.
I only cooked the onions for 2 minutes because I prefer my onions half cooked. Please cook it longer if you want it completely cooked.
Turn off heat.
Serve with steamed rice.
Enjoy.
