SAUTEED CHAYOTE/SAYOTE WITH GROUND PORK OR GINISA/PICADILLONG SAYOTE
Prep time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 18 to 20 minutes
Yields: 2 servings with steamed white rice
2 tbsp cooking oil
½ lb ground pork
1 small yellow onion, peeled, chopped (4 oz)
1 small tomatoes, chopped (4 oz)
5 cloves garlic, minced
2 pcs chayote (1 lb) peeled, seeded and cut into big chunks
2 cups pork broth
Fish sauce to taste
Ground pepper to taste
Heat oil for a minute using a medium size deep sauté pan.
Add onions and tomatoes and cook for 2 minutes. Cover, stirring occasionally.
Add garlic, stir and cook for another 3 minutes. Cover.
Add chayote and cook for 2 minutes.
Add broth. Bring to boil.
Cover and cook for 2 minutes.
Uncover, season with fish sauce and ground pepper.
Stir occasionally and cook covered for another 8 minutes or until chayote are soft.
Serve with steamed white rice.
