This is one of my ultra favorites!. Whether you add oyster sauce, plain soy sauce or hoisin sauce – it is so simple and I am sure – you will love it! Enjoy!
CRISPY TILAPIA AND TOFU IN ASIAN GRAVY
Prep time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 10 minutes
Yields: Serves 2 with steamed rice
1 1/2 lb tilapia fillet cut into small pieces
1 cup cornstarch
salt and pepper
extra firm tofu, drained from water, cut into medium dice.
4 tbsp cooking oil
5 cloves garlic, minced
3 tbsp soy sauce
3 tbsp hoisin sauce
2 cups chicken stock
1 cup chopped cilantro and green onions
Season cornstarch with salt and pepper
then dredge fish into the flour, shaking excess flour.
pre heat cooking oil
fry fish until golden brown and crispy. (4 minutes frying time)
Set aside.
Coat tofu with cornstarch as well.
Fry tofu until brown.
Remove oil.
Clean pan and add 2 tbsp cooking oil
saute garlic for 30 seconds.
Add soy sauce and hoisin sauce,
Add stock and bring to a boil.
Add fresh herbs and continue to cook.
Add slurry – this is the left over cornstarch dissolved in 1/2 cup water.
Keep whisking
As it simmers, slowly add fish
Add tofu.
Slowly move it around.
Turn off heat.
